This work focuses on the impact of the implementation of expansionary fiscal policies by the West African countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. First, we analyze the economic, social and sanitary position of the region as the pandemic occurred. Then we focus on the fiscal policies which have been implemented, through funds allocated to households, businesses and the healthcare system for instance.

Since these countries have a limited financing space, we see how they were able to finance all these programs, without forgetting the role of public actors such as the International Monetary Fund.

Finally, we try to see what could be learnt from this crisis and what should be implemented at a national scale to help these countries to be more resilient against future shocks  and improve their socio-economic development.
